�Թ�tv to Launch Nurse Aide Training Program

The �Թ�tv School of Nursing & Health Sciences is excited to announce the Pennsylvania Board of Education approval for its newly created Nurse Aide Training Program.  The program is designed to meet a growing area and statewide need for certified nursing aides in hospitals, nursing homes, private care, and the expanding field of home healthcare.  Completion of the six-week program, with a passing grade on the national certification examination, will provide an immediate pathway to an in-demand career as a certified nurse aide (CNA).

�Թ�tv Names Dr. Bindhu Alappat Vice President for Academic Affairs

�Թ�tv President Anne Prisco, Ph.D. announced the appointment of Bindhu Alappat, Ph.D. as the University’s Vice President of Academic Affairs. A seasoned academic administrator with over 15 years of experience in Catholic higher education as both a chemistry professor and an administrator, Dr. Alappat will assume her new leadership role on August 1, 2024. 

�Թ�tv welcomes Dr. Barbara Schwartz- Bechet as Dean of the School of Education

Former Fulbright scholarship recipient Dr. Barbara Schwartz-Bechet has assumed her role as the newly appointed Dean of the School of Education at �Թ�tv. Dr. Schwartz-Bechet brings 25 years of experience in higher education, most recently as the Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Education at Misericordia University.
 

�Թ�tv Adds Women’s Flag Football to its Athletics Program

�Թ�tv’s Department of Athletics announced the addition of women’s flag football making it the first Philadelphia institution to add women’s flag football as a varsity sport. 

�Թ�tv Breaks Ground on New Athletic Fieldhouse

�Թ�tv held a ceremonial groundbreaking for its new Athletic Fieldhouse on July 11, 2024, as construction is set to begin on the University’s Northeast Philadelphia campus. The project is slated for completion in December 2024.

Nigerian-born Stella Eke-Okoro Reaps Fruits of Righteousness through HFU School of Nursing

Stella Eke-Okoro was destined to become a nurse. 

Maybe it is because her very name, “Stella,” is associated with the guiding light that leads individuals toward their true path and purpose in life.  Maybe it is because since her childhood, with four siblings in Nigeria, to her arrival in America via a Visa lottery in 1996, a part of her always knew that the passion for the profession that she had in her soul would someday come to fruition.

As exposure to her latest book Catholicism Everywhere: From Hail Mary Passes to Cappuccinos – How the Catholic Faith is Infused in Culture continues to gain traction, �Թ�tv School of Education professor Dr. Helen Hoffner will add an appearance on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) in July. Dr. Hoffner will tape two episodes for the show At Home with Jim & Joy in the EWTN studios in Alabama on July 10-11.  The episodes will air on July 24-25.

HFU Senior Mia Peahota Wins Greenspan Scholarship

Mia Peahota, a senior majoring in history at �Թ�tv, has received the 2024 Greenspan Scholarship from the Sons of the American Revolution, a $2,000 scholarship established by F. Russell and Ruth Greenspan. Russell Greenspan was a Past President of the Philadelphia Continental Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (PCCSAR).
